Podcast 'Damn honey'
Racism against asians during corona

Racism against asians has increased because of the virus originating in China. The racism was brought to the surface by this and many people only now realise that asians already experienced racism long before corona came.
"De wereld draait door." On racism to asians because of corona.
Street interview

I never really talked about the racism I experienced, I don't really know why. Recently on the first day of school was the first time, it surprised me so much that afterwards people came up to me and said that they never realised that there was this kind of aggression towards asians. It was so normal for me.
Fox eye trend
A new makeup trend is going around, to transform your eyes into 'fox eyes' or 'Bella Hadid' eyes. The makeup technique makes your eyes appear more slanted and almond shaped. There's even this surgery to lift your brows called 'the oriental brow lift'.

It's weird to see something I have been bullied for my whole life is suddenly something desirable because white celebrities 'have' it.

My claim ?
What do I want..
I want people to be aware that racism against asians already existed before corona and corona only made it worse, that's what it took to make people notice it. Now it has appeared on the news but not enough.

I want it to stop. I don't want my kids to hear 'hanky panky Shanghai' at elementary school. I want the new generation to be more aware and understand that these things are not jokes.

I want racism to stop. But can it be stopped? Will this ever end? This thing that is so engraved in society around the world, it has survived all these years. This thing called white supremacy is still true to this day? Unbelievable, but true.
Article on "one world.nl" about adoptees experiencing racism too. I could already relate with the article from the first sentence.

Manifesto

I am angry, because this is my normal and this is not okay.
We have tolerated this for too long, it's time to speak up and realise what you are doing is not a joke and it's hurting people.

I’m riding my bicycle on my way home. A group of 15 year old boys ride past me and start screaming ‘ni hao ching chong’. This doesn’t make me angry anymore, it’s embarrassing.

I'm at Rotterdam central station and just walking to the metro, suddenly someone walking past tells me to go back to my own country.

I'm walking towards the exit of the station, I have my headphones on but I see a man leaning against the wall looking at me. I walk past him and hear him say some things. I try to block it out but what I heard was: "I know you can hear me, yeah walk away. It's your fault, corona is here".

I'm walking towards my apartment, this old woman walks past me and looks scared and immediately takes a few steps back. I think: "She's scared off me, but why?"

At elementary school I didn't understand why people called me shitchinese or shouted asian dishes to me. I thought I was just like other kids.

These are a few of the stories people told me that happened tot them. Now imagine if those things were said to you.

How many times to we have to hear people replace the R with an L when speaking to us
and singing hanky panky shanghai to our kids at school.

How long do we have to endure being cast out or being suspected because of the coronavirus?

A child with hooded eyes and black hair is the same as every other child.
An asian person walking by is not the cause of the corona virus.
When your jokes hurt someone they're not jokes.
